Over the past decade, an alternative digital paradigm has slowly been taking shape at the edges of the internet.

This new paradigm is the blockchain. After incubating through millions of Bitcoin transactions and a host of developer projects, it is now on the tips of tongues of CEOs and CTOs, startup entrepreneurs, and even governance activists. Though these stakeholders are beginning to understand the disruptive potential of blockchain technology and are experimenting with its most promising applications, few have asked a more fundamental question: What will a world driven by blockchains look like a decade from now?

  1. At last. A commentary which isn't hyped up by the hype and doesn't sweep the very real hurdles under the carpet! Well done FN.

  2. Great vid, helped me understand blockchain a bit more. Just one question, what is the monetary value that banks and other financial institutions will use if blockchain is to be implemented? For example, if bonds are to be transferred between Bank's A and B, what form of currency will be used to value that transaction? Apologies in advance if its a stupid question, I'm very new to this topic.

  3. methinks its sane let the blockchain techlgy wait until we fortify the big maze-internet against any potential hacking/hijacking coz 1 thing wrong can let the gremlins take over the world on an unprecedented scale…

  4. Mainstream finance didn't even understand the housing market, how are they going to understand the blockchain?

  5. Its not true that big banks are excited about blockchain. Its a threat for them, because its simple and clear and traders dont want that.

  6. this is like gun control. a minority of the population misuses things and commits crimes, so instead of holding those people accountable, a system is created that holds everyone accountable for everything they do?

So I can never change my mind about anything, and my entire existence is on public record? no thanks.

  7. The form of technology does not matter, the rich will benefit first and most. I remain pessimistic to the extreme.

  8. The Geeks have obliterated the International Banking System. Revenge for the Global Financial Crisis, long in coming but sweet. Bless them.

    Wow.

  9. Did anyone else hear the contradiction? She said there is no middle man then goes on to say information is distributed through computers that get a "fee" – huh? And no mention of the high cost of purchasing and running these computers which are now out of reach for many thus putting the "control" and "fees' in the hands of the rich again. What am I missing here – anyone?

  10. Cool video. Left out any mention of proof of work though. You can't separate bitcoin from the blockchain, so any future killer apps will be built on the whole system (bitcoin + blockchain = Bitcoin).

  11. Can we kill the idea that Blockchain will enable E-Voting?

If there is a verifiable record of how someone votes, history shows that leads to voter intimidation.

If you don't trust that your vote was counted, software isn't going to save you.
